Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads!
Happy Father’s Day!
I’m not sure how many fathers we have out there reading this, but for those that are, I hope you have a great weekend, and your families celebrate you!
Without fathers, we would all miss out on the unique things you do. Like bad Dad jokes, the world would be a sad place without those. Who would we call to come to help us out if our car broke down? At least, that is the case for me. I don’t know much about cars. How would our kids learn about doing ridiculous stunts just to say that they can? Who would we get to carry our skis or take a fish off our hook? Dads help make this world go around, and we are all the better for it.
A few funny Dad stories…
When I was a little girl, our family was skiing. The rule in our family was that if you fell, you had to get up fast because we knew that someone would spray us. I was maybe 5 or 6 years old, and I fell right under the lift. I scrambled as fast as I could to get up, but you guessed it, I wasn’t fast enough. My Dad came down the hill and showered me with a wave of snow. It was such a big wave it sent me tumbling over backwards and down the mountain. I was fine, but I think my Dad’s ego was bruised a bit when the whole lift started to Boo him. He did come down and help me up, dusted me off, and made sure I was ok. It was always a fun game, and we still play it to this day. We don’t fall as much anymore, but that’s ok too.
Another time, I had come home from school over Christmas just before I moved to Texas and Dad and I took a few days to go skiing. It was just the two of us, and we had a great time. We were riding up the lift, and we saw these four guys taking turns trying to spray each other as they came down the run. They were only getting about knee-high on their buddies. Dad and I had been perfecting the move for years. Dad looked at me and said, should we? I, of course, replied with a hell yeah! Just don’t fall as we do it. So, My Dad and I got off the lift, raced down the run to where the guys were standing, and we proceeded to cover them all with two giant waves of snow! Then we raced down to the lift with them chasing after us. They weren’t sure why we sprayed them, and our response was to give them an excellent example of how to get on your edge and spray someone. We laughed and laughed all the way up the next chair. I’m sure those guys picked snow out of their ears for days!
I think one of the most incredible things about Dads is seeing them become Grandpas. It has brought me great joy over the years to see my Dad and Kevin’s Dad be such loving Grandpas to our boys. They have taught our boys in different ways. My Dad taught our boys to stand up quickly when they skied with him, haha, and Kevin’s Dad taught the boys to fish where the fish are; it’s more fun that way. Our boys have a great relationship with both Grandpas, and I am very grateful for that.
I have enjoyed watching my Husband be Dad to our boys. He attended or coached at all the sporting events, teaching them both the value of a dollar and maybe how to splurge on things that Mom would never buy. One time, I got a call while I was away. It was Kevin asking if we had room on our credit card. I said, yes, why? Oh, no reason, see you when you get home. The boys were at the hobby store buying gas-powered remote control trucks. Yea, not something I would buy. The boys all loved it, so I can’t complain. It provided hours of enjoyment for the three of them.
These are just a few fun stories of Dads in my world. I hope that all the dads out there have a fantastic weekend. You all deserve it. A special thanks to my Dad on this day. It’s been since January of 2020 since we have seen each other, and I am looking forward to seeing you soon. Have a great day, Dad!
